Title: Communications Associate
Employment Type: Part-Time; permanent
Hours: 20 hours per week
Location: Must be located in Atlanta, GA (Will start remote due to COVID-19; except on Mondays for in-office staff meetings and check-ins; we will be transitioning back to the office full-time at a later date)
Reports to: Communications Manager
Compensation: $23/hour (to be paid bi-weekly)
Benefits: Paid time off (7 days/ calendar year- prorated), paid sick days (40 hours/ calendar year) & paid holidays

About SPARK
Founded in 2007, SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW (SPARK) builds and strengthens the power of our communities and a Reproductive Justice movement that centers Black Womxn and Queer, Trans and Gender Diverse Youth of Color in Georgia and the South. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, we have fostered a dynamic, collaborative model of advocacy, leadership development, collective action, and discourse that creates change and impact for Black women and queer people’s struggles for reproductive justice.
SPARK serves as an entrypoint and leadership pipeline for new social justice leaders, and a political home for Black women and young people, centering Black queer women, trans folx and folx living outside the gender binary. We utilize arts, culture and media to build resources for and shift narratives about our communities. SPARK engages in power building through grassroots organizing, advocacy, knowledge-building, and political development of its base and members in Georgia and across the US South.
Position Summary
The Communications Associate is responsible for assisting the Communications Manager in maintaining a productive Communications department. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, social media marketing experience, and the ability to work independently and sufficiently. As an associate, you will be tasked with assisting in the creation of our monthly newsletter, creating social media content, assisting in the development of digital communications campaigns, participating in relevant meetings/ events, and other tasks as assigned.
This position requires a maximum of up to 20 hours per week. Your work schedule will be discussed with the Communications Manager and documented through semi-monthly timesheets.

- Some knowledge about Reproductive Justice and working with a Queer framework.

Responsibilities
- Work with the Communications Manager to develop communications strategy and execute digital campaigns across multiple channels (social media, digital ads, print, etc.)
- Perform graphic design tasks as needed through canva (event materials, branding, social media campaigns, etc.)
- Attend meetings relevant to the Communications department (weekly staff meetings, bi-weekly programming meetings, etc.)
- Work with the Communications Manager to create SPARK’s monthly newsletter
- Document, evaluate and analyze metrics of social media and digital campaigns
- Keep in communications with SPARK team via Slack and email
- Meet with SPARK staff as necessary
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Excellent writing and communications skills
- Strong graphic design skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Google Apps
- Proficiency in Slack, Zoom, and other team communication apps
- Proficiency with social media platforms (i.e Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to an intersectional social justice movement including but not limited to Reproductive Justice, Black/Queer Liberation, and organizing in the South
- At least 2 years experience in communications work
