We are pleased to welcome Shayla Robinson to the SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW family as our new Program Specialist/Organizer!
Shayla Robinson is a Southern same-gender loving femme woman. She graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in Women’s Studies and Art History. At UGA, she served as the Co-President of Triota, the Women’s Studies Honor Society and was an LGBT Resource Center Ambassador. These engagements allowed her to become more involved with her community, where she was able to promote diverse perspectives and viewpoints and foster a safe space for LGBT people of color. In the fall, she will begin her Master’s in Women’s and Gender Studies at Georgia State University. She is interested in pursuing scholarship related to Afrofuturism and Black Feminist Thought, especially Love Politics, as well as a career that focuses on social justice and liberation for all marginalized groups.
“I am excited to join the SPARK team because reproductive justice is an issue that touches all members of marginalized communities, and I want to utilize my talents for the betterment of marginalized communities in the South, and creating a more inclusive home for all LGBT+ folks of color who want to live and love in the South,” states Shayla.
We are honored to have Shayla as a member of our team and know we will accomplish great things together! Join us in welcoming Shayla Robinson and wishing her the best in her journey with SPARK.

On Saturday Oct. 3rd, you, alongside many other feminists and feminist organizations SlutWalked down the streets of Los Angeles. In the face of a lot of hate and institutionalized oppression, in regards to our bodies, our sexuality, and our expression, you stood with dignity and unapologetic strength. Using the innovative idea of two fierce and bold organizers Heather Jarvis and Natalie Brouse, you created a space that was both radical and inclusive. A space that was for and by women — a space for reclaiming and for refusing.
Greetings SPARK Community:
On December 11, 2015, SPARK will host its 5th FYRE Media Justice Camp. Will you help us make it a success?
Since 2010, SPARK has utilized the FMJC to build new Queer & Trans youth of color leadership, change culture, and advance knowledge in Georgia and the South. Through this dynamic 4-day/3-night all expenses paid gathering, we equip Southern Queer & Trans youth of color with the skills and tools they need to reimagine and create media for our resilience, our lives, and our communities.
In our five years of coordinating the FMJC, we have hosted 35 LGBTQQ youth of color at 4 FYRE Media Justice Camps resulting in 6 short films, 3 blogs, 72 photographs, and podcasts on coming out, bullying, sexual health, healthcare access, violence, and abortion, and so much more! This year, we’re amplifying the voices of LGBTQQ youth of color through the medium of poetry. Participants will engage in interactive skill shares around reproductive justice, media justice, and artivism while gaining the skills needed to create liberatory media.
We need your partnership, your commitment to reproductive justice in the South to ensure we can continue to build this needed space!
On November 12th, SPARK will participate in Georgia Gives Day in an effort to raise $1,000 to support this year’s FYRE Media Justice Camp.We hope that you will join us in fostering vital spaces for Queer & Trans youth of color in the South and give to SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW!
In community power,
The SPARK Team
Georgia Gives Day begins on November 12, 2015 at 12:00AM and ends at 11:59 PM on November 12, 2015. All donations made before and during this time will count towards our goal!
